PREREQUISITE: Consultation with John

This three week class is an intensive “bootcamp” that will introduce the JRS philosophy and provide you with a foundation to be able to thrive in our monthly Ongoing Classes. Tool Shop is mandatory before enrolling in Practicum or Ongoing Classes (Tool Shop is not mandatory for our other classes).

Every actor’s brain and experience is different; Tool Shop is the first stage in which the actor and the teachers collaborate and work together to discover which tools best resonate with his or her acting process. Tool Shop is intended to expose you to the many “tools” that John wants you to have at your disposal. All of the teachers at JRS are exceptional at script analysis and helping actors accurately analyze what the writer and director are looking for when they create/envision a character – Tool Shop is where we impart that knowledge to you. Each character exists to serve the story, and your job as an actor is to tell that story while bringing your own voice and specific point of view to the work—a voice that is both informed and truthful.
