In this class, you will hone your audition technique.  Whereas “Audition Conditioning” is about getting you into the habit of auditioning, you will spend more time in this class working your auditions after watching your performances on tape.  It is important for you to know what the camera is picking up, not only in your performance, but in the way that you walk into the audition room.  We will be setting up staged “casting sessions” in order to simulate the real audition experience.

Actor Accountability Salon is for actors of every level, with/without representation, looking to be better at the business of show business. Each session begins with a short, sophisticated marketing lesson (the most class-like part of the salon) and then we’ll have an hour and a half as a group to dissect the lesson and cover assignments (AKA your career homework). This is the most innovative part of the class – we will devise individual, actor-specific, manageable assignments week-to-week so that each of us stays on task for our careers. Therefore, we are each held accountable by the rest of the group. Rather than a strict class format, our salon style session allows for advanced cross-talk, providing you the opportunity and expertise to always be doing all that you can for your career. Flex your auditioning muscles twice a week with Patrick Cavanaugh &

This is a new, audition-style class that’s all about what happens “in the room.” Patrick and Bethany focus on developing and practicing your individual audition preparation process. This class will teach you to quickly break down a text, find your unique “take” on a character and allow you to practice this process… twice a week!

You are encouraged to bring in your audition sides and/or work on the assignment posted by your experienced teachers. You will be put on tape often and always work with a reader.

Ongoing Class is a place to stay sharp and current while working or actively seeking work. JRS has students at every level, from the “Working Actor” to the “Beginner.” Ongoing Class is a quest for your unique way into the text/character. All acting methods are tricks to get you to be “moment-to-moment” within the given circumstances provided by the text and your imagination. Ongoing Class focuses on finding which tools work best for the individual actor. Ongoing Class meets once a week and registration is at the beginning of every month. Classes are held at our studio while rehearsals are coordinated with classmates. We strongly encourage actors to rehearse at least twice a week.

Now that you’ve received all of the necessary tools in Toolshop, it’s time to get personal. How do all of these new techniques mesh with your uniqueness as an actor? After all, it is the sum total of who we are as human beings that makes us interesting as actors and we want to bring that to our auditions. When we celebrate our own uniqueness while honoring the story… magic happens.

In Practicum, we focus on incorporating who you are with all of the new information you have just been given. Practicum is a safe environment to practice using your new tools. We also address your specific acting concerns. We look at your personal goals and where you fit in the business. Practicum ends with a class project that gives you a jumpstart in actualizing your vision of an abundant and fun career.

This three week class is an intensive “bootcamp” that will introduce the JRS philosophy and provide you with a foundation to be able to thrive in our monthly Ongoing Classes. Tool Shop is mandatory before enrolling in Practicum or Ongoing Classes (Tool Shop is not mandatory for our other classes).

Every actor’s brain and experience is different; Tool Shop is the first stage in which the actor and the teachers collaborate and work together to discover which tools best resonate with his or her acting process. Tool Shop is intended to expose you to the many “tools” that John wants you to have at your disposal. All of the teachers at JRS are exceptional at script analysis and helping actors accurately analyze what the writer and director are looking for when they create/envision a character – Tool Shop is where we impart that knowledge to you. Each character exists to serve the story, and your job as an actor is to tell that story while bringing your own voice and specific point of view to the work—a voice that is both informed and truthful.

When I first came to L.A. I was fresh out of a four year conservatory and not looking to be in another acting class. But when I started with John I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun I was having in an acting class! John has a third eye and is able to really discern what it is about the actor that pops and makes them stand out from the other actors in their type. I was with another teacher before him that said “I don’t know what to do with you, you’re a great actor, but type wise I don’t know what to do”. John never seemed at a loss. He is patient and yet he doesn’t allow an actor to be lazy. He helped me strengthen what I already have in my belt and grow into a better actor with the more challenging roles. I recommend him to every actor I meet who is wanting to find a coach, take a class, learn more about the business, or find representation.

I feel so incredibly fortunate to have John Rosenfeld as my acting teacher.  When I first began studying with John I had convinced myself of all the things I couldn’t do as an actor.  Case closed.  However, I quickly realized that in John’s class, taking risks, exploring, and challenging myself was lovingly encouraged at all times.  John creates a truly safe space where you can play, experiment and maybe fall flat on your face but more often than not discover aspects of yourself and your craft that you never knew were there.  I have no doubt that my growth as an actor is a result of John’s faith in his students, patience, and the risk taking that is an integral part of his class.  I have seen each and every one of my classmates excel at the very things they believed they could never “pull off.”  John also encourages a sense of play and wonderment when approaching the work that has made acting fun again for me!  Above everything though, I credit John with teaching me to have faith in myself as an actor.  I cannot imagine asking a teacher for anything more.

Whenever I need fast results for my clients, I always send them to John. He is an amazing acting coach that has given my clients the tools to succeed time and time again. His energetic guidance has effectively encouraged each of my clients to audition and perform at their very best… John’s bold choices and awareness of the business have merited the kind of results with my clients that have kept me as a loyal supporter.

I feel like I found the needle in the haystack finding John Rosenfeld. In the months that I have worked with John, I have learned so much as an artist and know that I have a great guide right behind me. I look at a scene and I see so much room for specificity and know exactly where to begin dissecting a scene.  I will use them forever in my work…. Sitcoms are one thing that we really hit hardcore in John’s class (and it was the one thing) I had the least experience in. I remember doing a scene from “Scrubs” and struggling and struggling to get out of one hour drama mode and let it all GO. 3 months later I find myself working on a CBS sitcom pilot with Sarah Chalke from that very same scene in “Scrubs.” Coincidence? I think not. John Rosenfeld? I’m going to have to say thank you. John is also my primary coach. I have never walked out of there not feeling confident and ready to have fun and give a great performance. Moving out to LA at 18 in August was not the easiest thing to do with my family on the other side of the country, but I am blessed to say that I now have such a strong support system and fantastic teacher at John Rosenfeld Studios.
