Paula Patton

Actor (MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4, PRECIOUS, DEJA VU)

John is an amazing teacher.  I cannot recommend him enough.  He was one of the most significant influences on my career as an actress.  When I started John’s class I had yet to book a single job.  With his skilled instruction, I went from only getting callbacks to actually booking jobs.  After having been in other acting classes, I remember being so impressed with what he taught us.  I finally felt like I was given actual, real, tangible tools I could use to become a better actor.  These were tools that could be applied to any material (comedy, drama, sitcom or film).  What I learned from him about dissecting a script, I still use on every new job I begin.  He taught me one of the most important and difficult things to learn, which was to be in the moment and not act.  He pushes you to be your best and won’t settle for anything less.  He is tough on his students but also incredibly caring.  He wants you to succeed and will do anything in his power to help you obtain your goals.  He worked tirelessly with me on many auditions and with his help I booked my first lead role in a film (Idlewild) and my second (Déjà Vu).

Teddy Sears

Actor (Series Regular on MASTERS AND JOHNSON, AMERICAN HORROR STORY, THE DEFENDERS, etc.)

My career occupies two unquestionably distinct time periods: before I met John and after. His ability as a teacher allowed my work to grow by introducing me to what was missing in my acting. He taught me a fresh and effective way to approaching scene work, and instilled in me the importance acting as a business. John knows what it takes to be a working actor, and he’s who I turn to whenever I need help. He’s the best.

Mo Mandel

Actor, Stand-Up Comedian (Series Regular on FREE AGENTS and STRANGE BREW)

I moved to LA and was able to get a lot of great auditions right away thanks to my stand up career.  Unfourtunately, I wasn’t booking any of these auditions and was quickly becoming worried that I might not have what it takes to be an actor.  Luckily I found John Rosenfeld.  He immediately identified what my weaknesses were and what about me was naturally funny, and tirelessly worked to help me bring these parts out in my acting.  His instruction is very focused and he approaches everyone’s acting abilities on an individual basis, cultivating what is great and talented about each of his students and helping that part of them shine in the room.  In less then a year and a half of working with John I have grown enormously in my understanding of what acting is all about and have just booked a lead role in a new sitcom for FOX by the creators of “Will and Grace,” and feel like the sky is the limit for where my career can go.

Randall Park

Actor (SUPAH NINJAS!, DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS, IRS, etc..)

I’ve taken a lot of acting classes.  Some have been good, others not so good.  But no class has helped me more in my growth as an actor than John Rosenfeld’s.  There are so many things that separate John from others that I’ve worked with.  For one, John truly cares.  I’ve never seen a teacher so genuinely invested in the growth and development of his students.  He sees each of us as individuals with our own unique gifts, and he recognizes that we each have our own personal obstacles to overcome as actors.  Also, John himself is a working actor.  He has a thorough understanding of what it means to be an artist in this business, and he approaches each class with this in mind.  He wants us to grow, because he wants us to work.  He wants us to be successful.  John is not your stereotypical acting teacher.  He does not “perform” for his class.  He knows a ton, but he does not claim to know everything.  He is a man of great integrity.  This is why I feel safe in his class, safe to experience the pains that come with real growth.  Also, John always surprises me with his graciousness.  He truly goes out of his way to help his students.  How he finds the time, I don’t know.  The guy really cares.  I am so lucky to have found him.  He is the best.

Tamera Mowry

Actor (ROOMMATES)

I took classes with John prior my comeback to comedy television as an ADULT.  Never before have I felt so prepared for my future roles as Hope on ABC FAMILY’s ROOMMATES and DANIELLE on Lifetime’s movie network DOUBLE WEDDING.  TV has changed when I started acting as kid and so had I. I was now an ADULT actress unconsciously holding on to my outdated tricks.  John taught me let go, and fly but most importantly not to ACT as the character but BECOME the character. To get so lost in the role you feel, breath, move, and think like the character herself.  As a result of my work on ROOMMATES, I’m now getting into casting rooms that closed their doors before.  Recently, I have had a Debra Zane request for Love Bites and have received an amazing complement from drama Californication and Defenders casting director, Felicia Fosano.  Her words exactly, ” you are such an amazing actress and I’m so happy to finally get to see you ACTING for a change. So, thank you John for helping me fly and for ONCE enjoy the process of acting and auditioning.  John would tell me, It’s all about the discovery of the role. Not waiting for the applause or response of how well you performed. It’s in this mindset I’ve learned I perform my BEST!!

Dylann Brander

Casting Director (HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, WRIGHT VS. WRONG, THE CLEANER, HAWTHORNE)

John simply knows what he’s doing!   He has a special ability to nurture his actors into to self-sufficient professionals.  He knows what the writers’ want, but he also gets his actors to bring their special “thing” to their work.  I recommend him to everyone– from the seasoned working actor to the novice.  He really is the best.

Mary Elizabeth Ellis

Actor (Series Regular on PERFECT COUPLES, IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY OF PHILADELPHIA)

John Rosenfeld is the rare kind of teacher that actually cares about his students’ success outside of class, listens to their questions with an open heart, and genuinely does his best to help them become the best actors they can be.  It’s lovely to have a teacher that still not only auditions, but works.  He is aware and sympathetic to the hardships we face as auditioning actors and applies his working knowledge to his coaching and class work.  That is priceless…  John pushed me to strip the b.s. that often comes with years of training and learn to trust that I am truly interesting and exciting enough to leave it at that.  He has also helped me change my mindset and technicalities from the stage to the camera when I was just beginning.  Actors from every background– from those with graduate degrees to the novice will be able to learn something new from John because of his personal teaching style, his enthusiasm, and his unique technique.

Kim Shaw

Actor (Series Regular on I JUST WANT MY PANTS BACK, HE'S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU)

I hadn’t been in an acting class since college. I was under the assumption that if you had a degree, there was no reason to continue studying. Actually I was just lazy. When I met John, he immediately zeroed in on my habits. We all have them. Getting past them, or better yet, cultivating them to use them as an advantage is where John truly excels. This class has given me drive, confidence and an incredible support group of friends. There is no ego at John Rosenfeld Studios. That is what’s so lovely about working with John. He is there night after night discovering what works best for YOU. He helps you find your strengths, and work through your weaknesses. Without a God complex. Every week, we work on current, interesting pieces, with an open opportunity to bring in our own auditions. JRS is a gem, and I was lucky to find it.

Johann Urb

Actor (EASTWICK, 2010, PORNSTAR)

There is really no one who I trust more than John.  He has such an amazing eye, and a HUGE heart.  He knows that acting starts with your head-space.  I think of him as a therapist/acting teacher- he can really see all the things that are blocking you from your creativity, and he knows how the remove the block.  Love the guy!

Kristolyn Lloyd

Series Regular on BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL

When I first came to L.A. I was fresh out of a four year conservatory and not looking to be in another acting class. But when I started with John I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun I was having in an acting class! John has a third eye and is able to really discern what it is about the actor that pops and makes them stand out from the other actors in their type. I was with another teacher before him that said “I don’t know what to do with you, you’re a great actor, but type wise I don’t know what to do”. John never seemed at a loss. He is patient and yet he doesn’t allow an actor to be lazy. He helped me strengthen what I already have in my belt and grow into a better actor with the more challenging roles. I recommend him to every actor I meet who is wanting to find a coach, take a class, learn more about the business, or find representation.

Brett Carducci

Manager at Aligned Enterainment

Whenever I need fast results for my clients, I always send them to John. He is an amazing acting coach that has given my clients the tools to succeed time and time again. His energetic guidance has effectively encouraged each of my clients to audition and perform at their very best… John’s bold choices and awareness of the business have merited the kind of results with my clients that have kept me as a loyal supporter.

Max Ehrich

Actor (PREGNANCY PACT, TEAM SPITZ, QUINN-TUPLETS)

I feel like I found the needle in the haystack finding John Rosenfeld. In the months that I have worked with John, I have learned so much as an artist and know that I have a great guide right behind me. I look at a scene and I see so much room for specificity and know exactly where to begin dissecting a scene.  I will use them forever in my work…. Sitcoms are one thing that we really hit hardcore in John’s class (and it was the one thing) I had the least experience in. I remember doing a scene from “Scrubs” and struggling and struggling to get out of one hour drama mode and let it all GO. 3 months later I find myself working on a CBS sitcom pilot with Sarah Chalke from that very same scene in “Scrubs.” Coincidence? I think not. John Rosenfeld? I’m going to have to say thank you. John is also my primary coach. I have never walked out of there not feeling confident and ready to have fun and give a great performance. Moving out to LA at 18 in August was not the easiest thing to do with my family on the other side of the country, but I am blessed to say that I now have such a strong support system and fantastic teacher at John Rosenfeld Studios.

Brandon Barash

Actor (GENERAL HOSPITAL)

John has been an x-factor for me in my career. He’s encouraged me to get out of my head and to “stop acting!” Anyone seriously considering a life in this wacky business would benefit from John’s guidance.

Blake Silver

Actor/Director (THOR, BOYFRED)

John is not for the faint-hearted.  He calls it like he sees it.  And frankly, how refreshing!  He’ll help you identify your bad habits and break them.  He’s excellent at crafting specificity in a performance. He won’t let you get away with crap.  If you’re up for the challenge, then so is he.

Wes Murphy

Actor (CRACKERJACK)

John’s specific instruction in class caused me not only to challenge myself as an actor, but to also challenge myself in life.  I looked at areas in my world where I was being inauthentic and fear existed and faced them.  Thanks to his coaching each week in class, I was able to successfully tour the nation with the Rascal Flatts band for 9 months as their emcee, performing in front of crowds of 20,000 people each shows.  I just completed a Jeff Foxworthy executive produced film called Crackerjack where I play the lead role.  I used the techniques I learned in John’s class EVERYDAY on set to be successful.   I could not have done it without him.  The class environment is always encouraging and the rehearsal style has allows me to get as much practice as needed.  I now walk into meetings with a swagger.

Lizzy Davis

Actor

I feel so incredibly fortunate to have John Rosenfeld as my acting teacher.  When I first began studying with John I had convinced myself of all the things I couldn’t do as an actor.  Case closed.  However, I quickly realized that in John’s class, taking risks, exploring, and challenging myself was lovingly encouraged at all times.  John creates a truly safe space where you can play, experiment and maybe fall flat on your face but more often than not discover aspects of yourself and your craft that you never knew were there.  I have no doubt that my growth as an actor is a result of John’s faith in his students, patience, and the risk taking that is an integral part of his class.  I have seen each and every one of my classmates excel at the very things they believed they could never “pull off.”  John also encourages a sense of play and wonderment when approaching the work that has made acting fun again for me!  Above everything though, I credit John with teaching me to have faith in myself as an actor.  I cannot imagine asking a teacher for anything more.
